Hye-Young Jo 조혜영

I am an HCI researcher, a Kendo enthusiast, a formal film CG specialist, and an artist.

I recently began my PhD program at the ATLAS Institute, CU Boulder, where I am advised by Prof. Ryo Suzuki in the Programmable Reality Lab.

My research interests include Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), smart healthcare, and human-AI collaboration. I focus on enhancing motion learning and digital content authoring through AR/VR, AI, and haptic technologies. I am particularly interested in how technology can foster healthier habits and create more productive work environments. I have published papers at prestigious HCI conferences, including ACM CHI, UIST, and HCIK, and received Best Paper (HCIK'22) and Honorable Mention awards (CHI'21).

Prior, I received my Master's at Make Lab, KAIST, where I had the pleasure of working closely with Prof. Andrea Bianchi. After that, I worked as a research assistant at Artifab lab, Chung-Ang University, with Prof. Yoonji Kim to enrich my academic journey.

Before joining the research community, I studied fine art for 20 years and received a BFA in Painting and Media Arts from Seoul National University.

After graduation, I worked at Dexter Studios, a Korean film company, for four years. I started as a VFX compositor in film post-production, composing raw footage with CG images. Later, I transitioned to the immersive content production team, where I worked as a CG artist, creating 3D characters and virtual environments.

Here are showreels showcasing some of my previous works across various fields outside of research.
